| NC's wooing of rebel BJP MLAs, a brazen act of Political debauchery: Harsh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu , Nov 30 : Harsh Dev Singh NPP MLA and its chairman today lambasted the ruling Coalition for resorting to treachery and deceit so as to woo the voters in the MLC elections. He said that several coalition Ministers who had divergent perceptions on the issue of Panchayats' empowerment and had ruled out incorporation of provisions of central law on Panchayats in the past are taking recourse to deceptive slogans in a bid to promote the prospects of their candidates in the said elections. Addressing the gatherings at different places, Harsh Dev Singh said that NC led govt. had fully realized the growing public resentment and Panchayats' anger against it and was therefore trying to forge alliance with political parties and groups to which it was diametrically opposed. Urging upon the Panchayat members to vote as per their conscience after taking into account the endeavors, achievements and sacrifices of NPP, he urged upon them to defeat the opportunist forces which had consistently shown disrespect for their concerns. Harsh Dev Singh said that it was NPP alone which had been supporting the cause of Panchayats at different foras and had moved Amendment Bills twice in the Assembly for incorporation of the provisions of 73rd Amendment in the State Act besides seeking their wholesome empowerment. He said that it was regrettable that the coalition govt. which had opposed his Bills in the Assembly was holding out assurances to Panchayats regarding empowerment besides making further promises to them during the currency of elections. He said the use of govt. machinery and forced involvement of govt. officers in campaigning for elections needed immediate direct attention and action by the Election Commission in the interest of free and fair elections which should not be allowed to be vitiated at any cost.
