| Kamaal for tactical reasons goes dormant | | LC Elections | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 30: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's uncle Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, who was very vocal till Novem-ber 22, has suddenly gone dormant. That day, he had criticized Omar Abdullah for his Bandipora statement that the NC and the Congress should contest the 2014 assembly elections jointly to defeat the PDP. Kamaal had said that suggestion of Omar Abdu-llah was not the party view and that it was for the party to decide this way or that way. As a matter of fact, he had opposed the suggestion in his typical style. The message of Kamaal that day was loud and clear: His message was that the NC just could not depend on the Congress which had consistently betra-yed it and its le-adership. In fact, he had been denouncing the Congress since years and holding it responsible for all the ills afflicting Kashmir. Kamaal has virtually gone dormant since November 22. He has hardly made any statement. Why? He has, it appears, willfully or as part of strategy gone dormant considering the fact that the NC and the Congress are contesting the Legislative Councils elections jointly hoping that such an election strategy would help the coalition capture all the four seats elections to which are to be held on December 3. He has been, it appears, maintaining a silence not to upset the coalition applecart at a time when the NC is finding the contest not that easy. He is not interested in the victory of the Congress candidates; he is interested in the victory of the NC candidates. There should be no doubt about it. He knows it fully well that any anti-Congress statement at this point in time can spoil the chances of the NC candidates. Or, one could also say that NC president Farooq Abdullah has told Kamaal to keep quiet till the election process is over. Whatever the case, the silence of Kamaal is meaningful.
