| NGO brings cheerfulness on faces of Gadwal villagers | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 4: To bring cheerfulness on the faces of hundreds of people of Rampur Gadwal villagers in District Samba the Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) and Dr Jindal Foundation Trust Canada have turned it into a model village setting an example for others to follow. The village was adopted by Bharat Vikas Parishad an NGO under its Samagra Gram Vikas Yojna in 2009 in collaboration with Dr Jindal Foundation Trust of Canada which provided Rs 20 lakh as financial assistance for the development of this remote village. To ensure proper development of the village a Grameen branch of BVP having 16 members was established. As the project is near completion a team of Dr Jindal Foundation and BVP headed by Dr Shiv Jindal and Sarita Jindal chairman and chairperson SGVY accompanied by R P Gupta, Rahdey Sham Mahajan, and R K Mahajan visited the village today to ascertain the progress of the work and utilization of funds provided by the Trust. The basic concept of adopting these villages is human development said Dr Shiv Jindal chairman of Dr Jindal Foundation Trust. He said under human development programme three basic things including health, education and employment of villagers is taken care of and in the Gadwal village under this programme. He said at Gadwal one drain of 338 rft and two streets were constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.41 lakh. Besides the work of renovation of toilets, compound wall and white washing of school wall was also completed and one HP, SM and Pump was installed with hand pumps , plastic tank, septic tank at Middle School Gadwal on which Rs 2.09 lakh were spent. He said under the sanitation at Rampur 28 individual toilets were constructed costing Rs 2.94 lakh. Besides seven streets with tiles and nallies were constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 4.67 lakh. Two drains were also constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 4.67 lakh, he added. Dr Jindal said one bathroom near primary school, Rampur for ladies and gents was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.04 lakh. Not only this but under the environment programme 2000 plants were planted during these three years. One Van Mahotsav by launching plantation drive on August 14 2010 was also launched by Minister of industries and Commerce, S S Slathia. Adopting this village for development and launching sanitation, plantation drive and health care programme in the village the residents of Rampur and Gadwal will have clean atmosphere and pollution free environment which is the object of BVP,, said Dr Jindal. |
