| Complete halt of governance for just 4 seats…..! | | How would coalition conduct itself for 2014 general polls….? | | early times report Jammu, Dec 4: Legislative Council polls are happily so over, giving a sigh of relief to people on many fronts. These polls are being seen as historic, albeit for all wrong reasons. For the modus operandi adopted by the coalition for conduct were not only , unseen and unheard of , but also set up wrong precedents for all political parties thereby vitiating the political system besides putting matters of governance to halt. The moot question remains that if the NC-Congress coalition (mis)utilized full one month and used all resources just for the sake of four seats, what would be the scene for 2014 Assembly polls when entire politics would be at stake for both the parties….? Even though there are no official figures nor would these be ever disclosed by either of the ruling parties or anyone at the helm of affairs in checking expenditure, a huge amount has been spent on these polls during campaigning as also in wooing the panches and sarpanches while entire political leadership tried to canvass in support of coalition candidates. The ministers and senior leaders of both National Conference and Congress toured and visited every nook and corner of the state during official campaign programmes and also in personal capacities for having influence in various areas. The regular visits and exhaustive touring by the stalwarts and leader down the line was all done at the expense of government exchequer. In nutshell it was gross misuse of official machinery and the allegations, if raised at any level, were gagged or silenced with vague justifications. Now even as the Chief Electoral Officer himself acknowledged fresh complaints to the effect of violation of Model Code of Conduct having been violated, one wonders whether there would be any follow up action in the matter. By the time results would be out for the polls, these matters would be tactfully pushed under the carpet. However, most worrying aspect of the wrong precedent having been set up by the present government is that it brazenly and openly remained off and away from its work one whole month , thereby letting the matters of governance hit and suffer badly. There was hardly any meeting held by any minister during the last three weeks, and one odd Cabinet meet held in between did not take any major decision. Governance came to complete halt at a time when various development works and schemes have not met deadlines and are suffering for proper attention from the concerned ministries. Even the routine works in Civil Secretariat have yet to start because almost ministers hardly attended the office since Secretariat reopened in winter capital on November 5. The moot point is that is this an alarming indication for the people of state for 2014 Assembly elections…? If so , what would be the fate of the governance and people of state in that 'political frenzy,…..?
