| Heat generated by corrupt official, coach-cum-player yet to get over | | All India VC T-20 cup over | | Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, Dec 4: All India T-20 Vice-Chancellor's cup may have got over but heat generated by the controversial selection of two players is yet to die down. Questions are being raised over the manner in which Vice-Chancellor Prof. M.P.Singh Ishar maintained a criminal silence over the issue. More importantly, selectors which included an international cricketer Surinder Singh Bagal preferred to keep cricketing norms at bay while selecting the team of Jammu University. He allowed brute violation of cricketing norms while university officials cited rules and regulations to justify what suited their taste and temperament. Director Sports Dhian Singh Bhau addressed a press conference clarifying the issue of selection of an employee who has been facing serious allegations of fraud and corruption. Vice-Chancellor kept mum as Bhau went on state that the employee namely Akash Bhola, an Assistant Engineer working with University's Public Works Department, was an exceptional cricketer and his talent cannot be allowed go waste just because he was facing charges of fraud and corruption. For Bhau and Vice-Chancellor, a corrupt but a promising cricketer cannot be debarred from his right to represent Jammu University. According to SVO, Bhola alongwith XEN Suresh Sharma has been booked for fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.5 lakh against the tiling work, which they had not carried out in Business School. VC ordered suspension of Bhola and allowed him to be part of cricket team of JU. Further, what has never happened in the history of cricket happened in Jammu University. Coach of the team padded up to be part of the playing eleven. Raj Kumar, a national level cricketer who has played Ranji for 11 years, played for Jammu University. Employed as coach of the Jammu University cricket team, Raj Kumar was both coach as well as part of the playing eleven. None has ever heard this combination. Coaches have never played in the team and have focused their energies on improving the team performance. However, in Jammu University, this does not happen. Coaches play alongside the players. They bowl and Bat. Yet neither was Raj Kumar awarded 'Best Bowler' nor could he get the 'Best Batsman' award. To add to miseries, despite playing with two controversial players, Jammu University lost the final with Kashmir University, that too badly. As many as 20 teams, including the host university team participated in the 15-day cricket tournament. The inaugural match was played between SKUAST-K and Punjabi University, Patiala. The matches were played on league-cum-knock out basis in which each team played four matches in their respective pool and two top teams from each pool, who qualified, were selected for quarter-finals.
