| NC jittery with heavy polling | | | early times report Jammu, Dec 4: Ninety six percent polling by panchs and sarpanchs in the MLC election has send National Conference in jittery. The high polling is expected to benefit most PDP, which is hoping of securing atleast two seats. "A low turn out would have favoured us. This massive percentage refl-ects the mood on the street, which is definitely not in our favour. We are keeping fingers crossed before the result," said a senior NC leader, wishing not to be named. National Conference, feeling the heat on the ground, has gone for tactical alliance with the Congress. It was expecting a low turn out, in the backdrop of the Salah-ud-din threat, and then using state machinery to its advantage. However, the public mood against the NC had spoilt the game plan. There is a strong perception, though some may call it conspiracy theories, that timing of threat, and that too repeated, by Salah-ud-din against panchs and sarpanchs was aimed at benefiting government. "It's an open secret that intelligences have access to top terrorists and they are used for some favours. It happens all over the world. There is possibility that Salah-ud-din might have also issued these threats on some signal from the government," said a senior police official wishing not to be named. PDP has been pulling all political cylinders to keep heat on the government, to keep its cadre intact and also to be seen as relevant political party in the political landscape of the State. Its leaders, unlike NC leadership, had been campaigning through out the State and elections comes at a time when its hard work was seen to be paying results. "Elections had come as gift for us. We were preparing for Assembly elections. But it would help us in showing our ground position, which we definitely hope and feel must have improved significantly for which we should than none less than Omar," said a PDP leader. What has given the party and disappointment for NC, is that party which is seen as persona-non-grata (most hated person) in Jammu after 2008 election, is making deep inroads in Jammu region, even in Jammu district. "Only Cong and PDP have the potential to form government. Cong has gone with NC at its own cost so PDP is definitely a credible alternative and results will prove it," said Ram Nath, a sarpanch.
