| Mulayam's tacit understanding with UPA on FDI diminishes chances of 3rd Front | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 7: Though the UPA Government led by Dr Manmohan Singh won the vote of Confidence in Lok Sabha on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) but it has exposed the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) claiming themselves to be the champions of poor and down-trodden people in the society who according to economists will be worst hit by the entry of FDI in retail market. Moreover the support of SP and BSP to UPA on FDI has also diminished the chances of formation of Third Front at Centre by the Left Parties with the support of SP and other regional parties claiming to align the pro Left line. According to sources the rift between the Left and SP- BSP has also widen after the latter supported the UPA on FDI and allowing its smooth sail during the vote of Confidence in Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The Left had already given indications in this regard after communists took a strong exception to the role of SP whom they were earlier trying to rope in for formation of Third Front. The political analysts are of the opinion that siding with the UPA on FDI issue the SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav will face the stiff opposition form the socialists as he claims himself to be a great socialist leader and follower of the ideology of veteran socialist Ram Manohar Lohia. Challenging the decision of Mr Yadav to allow the sooth sail of UPA during No Trust Motion the socialists all over country have termed his decision a betrayal to a cause saying that any kind of support to UPA on FDI means a betrayal with the poor and sown trodden people of the nation. The sources said that the socialists while opposing the decision of Mr Yadav said that supporting the UPA on FDI could be a compulsion for Mayawati who is out of power in UP and she wants backing of Union Government to get a relief from the corruption charges against her and harassment through the State Government run by SP but there was no such compulsion for Mulayam's Party which is in power in UP and which could have changed the political equations at national level by voting against the corrupt UPA which is knee deep involved in scams and misgovernance. The Mulayam's act would give Congress led UPA a lease of life for the time being but the Party will have to pay a heavy price in next Lok Sabha elections as the people feel totally dejected with its tacit understanding with UPA on FDI. The political analysts are of the opinion that by supporting UPA, SP has been fully exposed before the public for its dubious character and its slogans of socialism have proved totally hollow. |
