JAMMU, Dec 7: Bowling out hosts J&K for a small total of 108 runs, Himachal Pradesh today took a huge 210 runs first innings lead on the opening day of the three-day Vijay Merchant U-14 tournament at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here. When the stumps were drawn, HP were batting confidently at 318 for the loss of five wickets in 60 overs. SG Arora (67) and Herman Duggal were at the crease with 67 and five runs in their respective accounts. The young brigade from neighbouring Himachal started their innings so well that 151 runs came for the opening wicket stand. Both the openers, S N Vij and NA Sharma completed their half centuries contributing 71 and 65 runs respectively. Another middle order batsman, M S Dogra also made half century. From J&K, Aman Sharma, Monis Hassan and Shubam Singh shared the wickets. Earlier, J&K won the toss and decided to bat first and the whole side bowled out for 108 runs in 32.2 overs. Except for skipper, Shubam Singh, who made 45 runs, no other batsman could face the bowling wrath of Himachal and made a meek surrender. A Bakshi and Tushar Gupta opened the innings on a positive note adding 30 runs for the first wicket partnership. Four batsmen, Furhan Hamid, Fowaad Fayaz, Monis Hassan and Tushar Anthal went to the pavilion without opening their account. After the dismissal of Shubam, who fought the lone battle, wickets fell like nine pins. Last six wickets fell for just 18 runs to the leave the side struggling. From Himachal Pradesh, K B Singh emerged as most successful bowler, who took five wickets.
