12/10/2012 11:22:05 PM

early times report
Jammu, Dec 10: Former Union Minister and rebel BJP MLA, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta today asked the government to come out clearly about their plans, especially with regard to the implementation of sewerage system, construction of flyovers and measures for overcoming the increasing congestion in Jammu city.
In a statement, Prof Gupta pointed out that under the special package of the Prime Minister, the induction of sewerage system in Jammu city was taken up for execution as far back as over six years ago.
"Hundreds of crores have been spent for laying the huge pipes for the purpose. The citizens have had to face number of difficulties because of the digging of the roads and lanes as the repair works remained incomplete for months together. It was quite intriguing that despite huge spending the execution work is still in doll drums and the whole scheme of things are still to be formulated that where the pipes would be linked with the sewerage plants," Gupta said.
He alleged that unexplained delay is being caused even for allotment of execution works to some particular agencies which needed deep look by the concerned high-ups.
The former minister revealed that in Gandhi Nagar area several crore rupees were spent for laying the sewerage system several years ago "but what has been the fate of these pipes which were buried there, hardly anybody may be knowing about their places where these were laid as most of the officers/officials concerned have retired or even no more in this world."
Similarly, he said, there are several other such problems which were raised in several meetings "but with little tangible results and the public money getting squandered."
