Jammu, Dec 27: KL Saigal Hall reverberated with Bhajan recitals and Tumbri renditions here on late Thursday as noted singers Mamta Singh and Sham Sajan enthralled audience with their voices. The programme, a tribute to Pt Ravi Shankar led the audience to a pleasant journey into the world of classical music. The event lasted for hours. Organised by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages the programme was witnessed by an audience comprising litterateurs and music lovers. Among others prominent one's who were present included B. S. Bali, Pritpal Singh Betab, Mohan Singh and Anila Singh. As the singers recited bhajans and ghazals the audience in the 100-seater hall greeted them with thundering rounds of applause. Airing her feelings Mamta Singh, who had come from Varanasi for the event, said that she was glad that the Academy had invited her for the event. Talking about her background Singh said that she was a music graduate from Benaras Hindu University and belonged to the Benaras musical gharana. Earlier in her welcome remarks Academy's additional secretary, Savita Bakshi said that through the event Academy intended to pay tributes to the legendary Sitar maestro. |
