Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 27: In the function that marked first death anniversary of Yash Paul Khajuria at Udhampur on Wednesday, two important developments took place that can have very significant ramifications for Congress in J&K. One that J&K PCC chief emerged victorious in managing to get almost all functionaries and cadres assembled who otherwise remain divided in two factions of the State unit of party. Following the function in a separate meeting, the party also witnessed open rebellion from a senior leader of Ghulam Nabi Azad faction against a senior most leader of the party, besides being a staunch loyalist of Azad camp.
Sources said what unfolded as a surprising development in the said function was convergence of all functionaries from the district Udhampur irrespective of their affiliations with two groups and loyalties towards Soz and Azad. Besides the district president of Udhampur, block level presidents and other leaders led by their supporters assembled in good numbers to attend the function to observe death anniversary of late Khajuria, who was a popular leader from the district. Sources said the function in which Prof Soz was the chief guest surprisingly saw those also present who are considered to be close confidantes of Azad, a development which is being seen as positive one that goes in favour of JKPCC chief at a time when party has to face elections after one year.
Sources said some leaders from outside the district, having allegiance with Azad made hectic efforts to sabotage the function by trying to keep certain leaders away from the function but they miserably failed in this attempt as the leaders not only attended the function willingly, but also spoke openly against a tall leader in the Azad group. And this rebellious voice surprisingly came from a senior leader Brij Mohan Sharma, a senior leader of party who contested the last Assembly election from Udhampur. Sources said as soon as he started comments critically against the said leader, contending he was not obliging a single worker from the district nor serving party interests , the second line leaders and cadres endorsed his comments in front of the State president of party Prof Saif-u-Din Soz. While this rebellious voice was led by the senior local leader , the functionaries also went on to the extent of alleging that instead of serving the party interests , the Azad loyalist has remained prompt in serving the interests of rival party leaders , something which has demoralized the cadres and workers of Congress in Udhampur.
Sources also said that in the meeting the local leaders on the contrary were all praise for senior leader and Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma, lauding his efforts and hard work he put in during the recently concluded polls for LC seats under Panchayat category. Sham Lal, who was made incharge for Udhampur camped in the district throughout the campaigning and put in his best efforts , they said. Sources said the leaders in one voice sought Sham Lal to be substituted for key post in delivering services in terms of development of the district.
