| Girl molested in mini-bus in Jammu | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 27: The image of Jammu and Kashmir Police has once again been tarnished when a policeman allegedly molested a young girl in a mini-bus which was on way to Bari Brahmana from Jammu today afternoon. The policeman identified as Rajinder Singh of RS Pura area, who is working as a constable in Kot Bhalwal central jail molested a college girl of Vijaypur when she was on way back to home from Jammu. Though the policeman has been arrested but it led to the protest demonstration from people of Bari Brahmana who raised slogans against J&K Police. Sources told Early Times that Singh was drunk and when boarded the bus at Gangyal area of the city, straight away started to touch the girl who was next seated to him. Despite objection from girl, the policeman continued the molestation and no one from the bus tried to stop him. It was only after the mini-bus reached Bari Brahmana that girl started beating him to which nearby police responded and whisked away the drunk policeman. People in the area protested against police and demanding action against the accused. But the molestation case has once again raised the question mark on the safety of women folk in Jammu especially in the public transport where no security arrangements has been made from Government side so far in any of the cities of the State. The incident has again questioned the commitment of police towards safeguarding women from molesters who every now and then harras girls and women in buses and on road sides. "The molesters have no fear of police or of any Government agency and do whatever they want. This is one case where the bravery of girl managed the arrest of molesters but what about those women and girls who due to fear of many things don't come in front and speak about such cases,' said a protestor who along several others assembled in Bari Brahmana diversion to protest against the incident. The police is well aware of the fact that the number of eve teasers and molesters in Jammu city alone has increased manifold but they are not caught due to lack of information from people and commitment from police personnel. Now, the question has come up when policemen themselves started molestation, where should the common man go. If the common man protest, they might face brunt of policemen who work on the direction of politicians and senior officials. This incident came to fore because the girl herself is a professional boxer and daughter of a policeman otherwise no girl dare to come in front to speak about such incidents. |
