JAMMU, Dec 27: Minister for Public Enterprises, Peerzada Mohammad Syeed today said that education of women is an essential component for their social, economic and political emancipation as they have a definite role in nurturing the society towards a better world to live in. The Minister was addressing a function held in connection with celebration of Diamond jubilee of Central Social Welfare Board at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium in University of Jammu with the theme "Campaign against atrocities on women, need, care, and empowerment of women through education". Congratulating the Chairperson of State Social Advisory Board, Khem Lata Wakhlu for organizing this awareness camp, the Minister said that such programmes can really make a difference in the society. He advocated stern action against those elements that commit atrocities over women and added that the Government is initiating several efforts to stop these heinous crimes by virtue of existing laws in the State. Condemning the recent Delhi rape case, the Minister said that such shameful acts still confront our minds that women are not safe in our society. He stressed for making women more strong physically and psychologically to fight such violence against crime He said that under SSA there are a number of schemes for providing education to women and also educate drop out girls in the state. He said that during the last 10 years, the ratio of literacy among women has been increased 15 percent which is a healthy sign for a healthy society. The Minister said that such camps should be organized in very district of the State for providing necessary awareness about the provisions of law guaranteed by the Constitution for protection and empowerment of women. He said that education of women is a strong tool, by which she can lead an independent and dignified life.
