Early Times report

Jammu, Dec 29: A demonstration and sitting dharna was observed by the VRS employees outside the Press Club Exhibition Ground Jammu under the leadership of Dev Raj Bali President VRS Union. The retired employees of the J&K SRTC held joint demonstration criticized the behavior of the J&K Govt. in releasing the pending dues of VRS/GHS employees and the VRS/GHS employees are struggling for the same for the last 3 years and are on the roads. The protestors alleged that till date no positive response is being given to we people and it appears that the coalition Govt has no concern with the public and the VRS/GHS employees despite its claims that one who takes the VRS/GHS his/her dues will be cleared within the 60 days from the date he took the VRS/GHS. Speakers said, "there is clear violation of order No. 218-F of 2007 dtd 16-7-2007 and order No.92-F in which it was clearly mentioned that "Sanction is accorded to the implementation of Golden Handshake (GHS/Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VSR) for the employees of the State Public Sector Undertaking (PSUs) as per the report of the High Power Committee under the chairmanship of B R Kundal, Financial Commissioner (Home)." They said this order is being misused by the J&K Govt. and management of J&K SRTC and demanded 126 installments of COLA due from 1-1-2006 and implementation of 6th Pay Commission arrears w.e.f 1st Jan 2006. They lamented they are amazed that benefits are being given to the in-service employees and the fresh retiring employees of the J&K SRTC but only 670 VRS/GHS employees have been ignored and the reasons better known to the concerned. Balbir Chander, Balwinder Singh, D.N. Sharma, Mohd Sharief, Surjit Singh, Ashok Sharma, Prem Nath, Gulshan Singh and others also participated n this protest.
