early times report
Jammu, Dec 29: Bhartiya Janta party today alleged that Congress and the National Conference (NC) are responsible for the apathy of refugees in J&K who even have been debarred from the permanent citizenship due to the vested interests of the political leaders especially of Congress and National Conference.
This was stated by Bhartiya Janta Party leaders when Bhartiya Janta Party's Member Parliament (Rajaya Sabha) Avinash Rai Khanna alongwith the State present of the Party Jugal Kishore Sharma distributed relief material to more than 500 poor families belonging to the west Pakistani refugees at Swankha Morh-Vijaypur.
Expressing his serious concern over the human rights violation of West Pakistan refugees in Jammu and Kashmir MP Avinash Rai Khanna said, "If late Inder Kumar Gujral and Manmohan Singh who are migrated from West Pakistan and settle in Delhi could become the PM of the country' then why the West Pakistan refugees in Jammu and Kashmir are deprived of their rights since independence."
He said West Pakistani refugees in J&K are the worst victims of human rights violation as they have no right to live, to seek education and employment, own land and right to exercise franchise in the state assembly and panchyat elections.
He said 1.5 lakh West Pakistan refugees are living along Indo-Pak border in R S Pura and Suchetgarh, Bishnah, Samba, Hiranagar and Akhnoor constituencies are living in sub-human conditions and nobody is caring for them. He said Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and the founder of the National Conference Sheikh Abdullah had promised for rehabilitation of the West Pakistan refugees but betrayed and even the successive government in Jammu and Kashmir failed to provide justice to these refugees.
Speaking on the occasion BJP state president Jugal Kishore Sharma accused the Congress and the National Conference of harbouring communal outlook on the rehabilitation of refugees from West Pakistan, who have settled in Jammu since 1947. He said Congress and the National Conference are responsible for the apathy of refugees in J&K. Jugal said west Pakistan refugees who in 1947 migrated to Jammu and Kashmir state from Pakistan after the partion of the country are still living as slaves in Jammu and Kashmir though they are Indian citizens and residing in the state since independence.
Meanwhile Lahba Ram Gandhi, leader of West Pakistan Refugees Action Committee has thanked the BJP leaders for their support. Among the other prominent leaders who were present at relief distribution function were Ravinder Raina, Dr Tahir Choudhary, Vikram Randhawa, Janak Bharti and Shashi Pal Vaid.
