The Wonder Springs of Basohli
Er.D.K Sharma12/29/2012 11:33:24 PM

Basohli: Basohli and its adjoining area are abundant in water resources, Basohli town itself is well known for springs locally known as Nadas, Sprouts, Boulis and Oozings. Many of these Nadas or Boulis have submerged into the big sprawling lake of Ranjit Sagar Dam.
The centuries old glamour of Bada Nada, Bhairav Nada, Padhon Ki Bauli, Bhat Bouli, Bal Inder Bagh Bouli and Master Chandu Lal Bauli etc vanished in this lake. All these springs have a rich historical background of Serpent Kings, Nag Devtas. The carving of Nag Devta on stones are generally seen alongside these springs which are worshiped by the people after taking bath in these sources of natural water.
The same faith is also prevalent in the big or small lakes. The Shesh Nag lake enroute to holy cave of Shri. Amarnath Ji, the Basuki Nag of Kailash Kund, the Nag Raj of Mani Mahesh etc is still worshiped for the dignity of the Nags. The people of this mountainous terrain worship Nag Devtas who in return sprout water as their blessings.
When so many seminars and slogans are heard about the preservation of water but nothing is being done for already existing water bodies. Basohli has a distinction of having big and centuries old water tanks, but without any care and thought to preserve them.
The water tank of Basohli in foot hills of ancient and ruined palace of Raja Bhupat Paul, Lotus tank of Farnat Village, Jamiayeen, Plassi, Noun of Hutt village, mineral water source of Rehan village, tank of Barher-walla-Chogan, Bada Khou of Basohli, water source of Dhar-Mahanpur and water source of Goran of Mara village etc need special attention of Govt., for their preservation, at the level of Ministry of water resources.
The wonder spring of Karanwara is enroute Basohli-Mahanpur road is worth worshiping and deserves all attention for tourism under preservation of cultural heritage. The fascinating and divine power of this spring is widely known for its forecasts over bumper crop, failure of crop or spreading of disease during the particular season of the year. The spring has a divine power to sprout particular crop seeds as an indication of bumper crop. If illachies are sprouted, the forecast is spreading of an epidemic during the season. This is rarest divine phenomenon and exploration of such cases need extensive study under cultural heritage.
The J&K tourism should come forward to explore such cases and put on tourism map for awareness among the people in general and the tourists in particular.
