| 'Kashmiri students facing harassment in Haryana' | | | early times report
Srinagar, Dec 29: Kashmiri students undergoing various professional courses under the scholarship scheme of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), in Haryana have accused the college administration and local students of harassing them on one pretext or the other.
A group of students while calling KNS over phone said that they were being harassed by the local students and hostel wardens at the Ganga Institute of Technology and Manag-ement Jajjar Haryana.
"They call us terrorists and harass us. Many of us were beaten by the locals and abusing us has become their habit. Nobody here comes to our rescue", said a student claiming to hail from uptown Srinagar wishing not to be named.
Another student in a distressed voice said they are not being allowed to go home. "We don't want to study here. They hate us and make us feel insecure. We tried to escape and go home but they locked us up inside the hostel premises", he added.
According to the students, around 90 Kashmiri students are studying under a scheme of the union Ministry in the college. Most of the students are enrolled for undergoing under graduate courses like B Tech, BBA etc, they added.
The students have appealed the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for intervention. "We request the Chief Minister to take up the matter with the government here. Please ask him to do something for us as we are in a lot of trouble here", said one of the students. The students also appealed the civil society in Srinagar and New Delhi to come to their rescue. |
