Jammu suffered in 2012 like in the past
Biased NC-Cong Dispensation

JAMMU, Dec 31: 2012, like the preceding years, did not see Jammu province witnessing any change whatsoever in its political status; the province, which houses almost half of the state's population, occupies area two time more that of Kashmir and contributes more than 75 per cent revenue to the exchequer annually, suffered immense socio-economic and political losses at the hands of what could be dismissed as the NC-Congress biased and Valley-centric rule. It was not just the Kashmir-based and essentially communal NC, which has been leading the government since January 2009, which treated the people of Jammu province, Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs included, shabbily and denied them their due share in any of the sectors, including the vital service and economic sectors as well as nation-building sectors like educational institution, technical and professional institutions and universities and colleges included.
The NC did what it was supposed to do and it brazenly perpetrated injustice after injustice on the people of Jammu province. Just look at the official statistics on all vital sectors and you will see that the people of Jammu province had never suffered such immense losses as they suffered during the past four years. The NC could harm and jeopardize even the normal political rights and interests despite the fact that the government that it led was not a one-party government. In other words, even the weak NC was able to further enrich Kashmir, create more facilities in the Valley and cater to all the needs of its people, including youth. The NC proved by its words and actions that it was committed to safeguarding and promoting further the interests of the already exceptionally privileged and rather prosperous and developed Kashmir Valley.
It was none other than the Congress, which had, like 2002, fought the 2008 assembly elections on the Jammu plank and made a solemn commitment that it would, if voted to power, end the Jammu's night of discontent and despair by providing them an empowered political instrument, which gave unflinching and unqualified support to the Kashmir-based NC leadership for all it wanted to do for the Valley and cause a grievous injury to Jammu. It was the Congress ministers, especially the Cabinet Ministers, who consistently made common cause with their Kashmiri counterparts and willingly and cheerfully became a party to the anti-Jammu policies the NC devised and ruthlessly implemented.
It was not for nothing that many Jammu-based JKPCC office-bearers and Congress workers and supporters took on the Congress ministers umpteen times during the party meetings and held them responsible for the decline of the Congress party in Jammu province. Again, it was not for nothing that senior vice-president of the Congress Dharmpal Sharma had to demand three Pradesh Congress Committees, one each for Jammu province, Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region, saying the needs, compulsions, aspirations and demands of the people of these regions were different and that one JKPCC had failed to discharge its obligations towards the people of Jammu province. He knew it that the existing Congress set-up had failed Jammu. That was the reason he demanded a separate Pradesh Congress Committee for Jammu province.
It was not only the Congress and the local NC leadership which harmed Jammu province by giving unstinted support to the Valley-based NC leadership. The opposition parties like the BJP and the Panthers Party also let down Jammu province by not playing the role of an effective and responsible opposition. When will the Jammu leadership, cutting across party lines, come on one platform and dispense justice to the people of Jammu province with whose vote and support that have been enjoying loaves and fishes of office and other privileges?
