| No end to controversies over Jagti flat allotment | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 31: After bungling of flats in police housing colony by Relief department to migrant families, another bungling at Jagti township has come to fore where allegations of favouritism are being leveled against officials of Relief department. This time the Relief Commissioner R K Pandita himself is under scanner for nepotism while allotting flats to migrant families who were living outside migrant camps and had applied for flats at the Jagti township in outskirts of Jammu. Sources told Early Times that in 2011, after Relief Commissioner office advertised and invited applications from interesting persons, the office received 5000 applications, following which in July this year, the office allotted flats to 549 families and said that office had received 15000 applications, which was not matching with figure of 2011. "The office had received only 5000 applications but when flats were issued, the total number of applications raised to 15000 without any fresh invitation. This was done backdoor to allow people apply for flats who were enjoying compatibility with some officials of Relief department," sources added. The office didn't issue the list of those people who have been rejected and no reason has been given of their rejection. Under the Prime Ministers Reconstruction Plan for Kashmiri migrant families, displaced after mass migration from Kashmir valley in 1989 when arms insurgency broke out in the state, 4224 flats were constructed at Jagti in Nagrota, in outskirts of Jammu and migrant families residing in one room migrant camps were absorbed in these flats. The process of shifting migrant families from old camps was completed during 2011 and further applications were invited from migrants living in non camps in rented accommodations for allotment of left over flats. Sources said that the Relief Commissioner office had received around 5000 application for the said purpose and after starting proper verification some flats were allotted to widows and patients in first instances and rest were under verification and it was decided that flats will be allotted to deserving families and if such deserving families will be more then allotment shall be made through draw. Immediately after the list was published, people sensed foul play in the allotment of flats, and held protest demonstration outside Relief Commissioner’s office and sit in was also held at Jagti, which ended after assurance of looking into the matter. But for past eight days, protest outside Relief Commissioner’s office continues. The Relief Commissioner office had also notified that objection if any may be addressed to the office with conclusive proof within three days of publications of this list. But no objection was entertained and termed as proper. |
