| City witnesses protests seeking stringent punishment for accused | | Srinagar Acid Attack | | Javaid naikoo srinagar, Jan 4: People in Srinagar today launched a protest to press the authorities for severe punishment against those involved in Acid attack on a girl in Srinagar. The protest was organized by Regal Chowk Traders Association Srinagar in which dozens of shopkeepers and locals of the area took part. Protestors were carrying placards, banners and raising slogans against the increasing incidents of harassment of women in Kashmir. They also demanded that those involved in these incidents must be punished severely so that such incidents can be checked in future. President Regal Chowk Traders Association, Man-zoor-ul-Haq said that keeping in view the increasing incidents of harassment of female students outside coaching centers, separate timing for female students must be implemented in the city. He also said that separate hostel facilities must be provided to the female students to ensure safe and secure environment for their studies. The protesters also warned the lawyers not to provide any legal assistance to people involved in the case. "The Bar Association has decided that the accused person will not be provided any legal aid," a statement of the association said after a meeting of the Executive Committee in Srinagar. The acid attack victim has been shifted to New Delhi for specialized treatment and a noted valley based surgeon of District Shopian, Dr Sameer Kaul has stepped in to bear the victim's complete treatment expenses at the Apollo Hospital Delhi. The girl namely Ruqaya Jan of Bagat Srinagar was attacked with acid by a local boy Reyaz Ahmad Nath son of Ghulam Rasool Nath resident of Lone Mohallah of Chanapora Srinagar on January 2, 2013. |
