ABVP holds protest, demands death penalty for rapist

Jammu, Jan 4: Respo-nding to its Nationwide Protest call today Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Paris-had (ABVP) today held a strong protest demonstration across the state demanding speedy justice for Delhi gang- rape victim Nirbhaya, who died on last Saturday in Singapore.
A large number of students and ABVP activists today took a strong protest march from parade ground to Governors hou-se against the heinous cri-me and demanded speedy justice. The protesting ABVP activists were holding placards that read 'We want capital punishment for rapists', stop sexual violence against girls,' Surakshit Nari, Surakshit Desh- ABVP ka yahi hay Sandesh, Damini kay Hatyaron Ko fansi do, fansi do, Delhi kay gunahgaron ko fansi do, fansi do, while another group shouted slogans demanding that the government speed up the punishment process of the rapists with placards like ‘Stop Sexual Violence against girls,’ It's not to protest, but to wake the government to pass a law'.
Addressing the protesting ABVP activists Kailash Goswami ABVP state joint secretary expressed outrage at the increasing atrocities being committed against women and decried the helplessness of the state in curbing these crimes. He demanded stringent punishment for those found guilty of rape.
He further said that these protests should be a wakeup call to the government that is not speeding up the trial.
Arjun Mengi ABVP state office secretary while addressing disclosed that today's protest was ABVP's all India protest against gruesome incident of gang rape held in Delhi and in Jammu- Kashmir similar protest demonstrations were held at Kathua under the leadership of Raghav Sharma ABVP State Secretary and Rahul Dev ABVP state Joint Secretary, at Udhampur the protest demonstration was led by Kuldeep Singh ABVP National Executive Member and Sushant Gupta ABVP Udhampur PG College President. More protests were held at R. S. Pura, Reasi, Samba and Poonch.
Others who addressed on the occasion include Neeraj Singh, Atul Sharma, Aryaveer Singh, Happy Sharma, Harjeet Singh, Shaksham Kotwal and others.
