EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 4: Patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Moham-mad Sayeed today regretted that the present regime headed by National Conference has miserably failed to carry forward the process of peace and development which was initiated by the previous PDP led regime in the State. Addressing meeting of senior party activists from Reasi, Gool, Arnas, and Mahore areas, Mufti said that it was during PDP led regime that common masses had connected themselves with the government because it was only during the PDP-led regime that governance consciousness was generated among people of Jammu and Kashmir and common masses had a taste of good governance. Mufti, however, regretted that the present regime has reversed the whole process of peace and development. "What to say of further consolidating the reconciliatory and peace initiatives made by the PDP led government, this coalition regime has even reversed by the whole process through its oppressive measures", he regretted. He said that the biggest achievement of PDP was restoring peoples' faith in the democracy and democratic institutions. "Unlike other parts of the country, the taste of democracy was denied to the people of Jammu and Kashmir because National Conference had never allowed democratic institutions to be flourished in the State", he maintained. He said that during the regime of PDP various steps were taken for the economic development of the State while mentioning towards construction of Mugal road. He said this road would be proved as a path of growth and economic development in both sides of Pir Panchal. He said that Self-Rule proposal of PDP was aimed at fulfilling democratic and political urges of the people of Jammu and Kashmir as this document was prepared by incorporating wishes and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions of the State. PDP patron said that 'Self-Rule' suggest opening of all traditional routes to make Jammu and Kashmir a trade free zone as it will help socio-economic growth of the state. "Socio-economic growth of the State has been restricted after the partition due to plugging of all routes connecting Jammu and Kashmir with rest of the world", he observed and maintained that his party's proposal suggest opening of all traditional trade routes for the economic growth of this region. Pointing towards on-going across LoC trade, he said that it was all due to the efforts of PDP that this trade was started and this process has boosted economic activities in both sides of LoC. He, however, regretted that present government headed by National Conference has failed to further facilitate the cross LoC trade. Terming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a movement which resto-red dignity and honour of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti said that party has revived peoples' faith in the democracy and democratic institutions.
