| Harassment of female students: Accused professor transferred | | | early times report Jammu, Jan 4: After long agitation by students of Government Degree Colle-ge R S Pura, the professor who was allegedly harassing female students has been shunt out of the College. The agitation was led by Progressive Stude-nts Association (PSA). Tehsildar, RS Pura told the protesters on Friday that he has received a fax, regarding the transfer of Assistant Prof Jagjeet Singh. He also assured them that rest of the demands will be also be fulfilled. The demand of agitating students is revocation of suspension and rustication orders against the two students and the independent and transparent enquiry in the harassment of the female student inside the College. On Friday a protest rally was organized and despite winter vacations break in the colleges, large number of students participated in the rally. Prominent personalities of the R S Pura also took part in the rally which culminated in front of the office of the Sub Divisional Magistrate where the protesters handed over a memorandum to the SDM. Speaking on the occasion state president PSA Dheeraj said that they were agitating from the last two weeks and several times symbolic and peaceful protests were held. "We don't want R.S Pura to become Delhi," he said. Kisan Union President and senior Congress leader Mohan Choudhary, while extending support to the agitating students said that they were shocked when they heard that the professor was harassing the girls. They condemned the incident and said that such incidents were shameful. "We will not tolerate such happenings," they said. Ward Member Inder Sooden said that this was shame for the people of R S Pura that girls were on roads protesting against the act "and we are inside our cosy rooms." He extended his support to the agitation and demanded that the demands of students should be accepted by the administration. |
