| Dachnipora residents allege irregularities in MGNREGA | | | Saahil Sohail
Anantnag, Jan 10: Alleging gross violation of set pattern and norms particularly flagship of centrally sponsored scheme Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the locals alleged that concerned higher ups in Rural Development Department (RDD) have allegedly benefited blue eyed cohorts in Anantnag district of South Kashmir.
Locals accusing that officials at the helms of affairs in Rural Development Department Dachnipora block have sidelined the norms to winds and only have allegedly shelled out benefits to blue eyed and political activists as well but sidelining the common masses of Dachnipora block.
According to sources within the department and residents of different villages here, the Rural Development Department has turned to a 'gold mine' for only to some individuals who turned to be major beneficiaries of centrally sponsored scheme.
"In Srigufwara, Khiram-Nowshera and other adjoining villages of the block, the officials and Village Level Workers (VLWs) in nexus with political leaders have benefited only their sympathizers and workers and have allegedly constructed paths for their residences under MGNREGA instead of doling out benefits to community," the residents of Khiram village alleged.
Local alleged under govt provision no work under MGNREGA can be initiated that benefits single family but in many cases rules have been sidelined.
They further alleged that though under the scheme only one member from a particular family should be the job card holder, the families of Panchs, Sarpanchs and other cohorts of politicians have obtained upto five job cards with the help of VLWs.
Pertinently, the scheme guarantees 100-day employment to the card holders at Rs 121 per day. However, villagers allege that the contractors and other blue eyed persons are showing their own family members as labours for their vested interests.
Locals now have sought the intervention of Director Rural Development Department in this regard and also have demand investigation like IAY hutment scam which brought many skeletons out of the cupboard. |
