| Manjit warns leaders to desist from anti-refugee statements | | Demands one time settlement, ownership right to DPs | | EARLY TIMES REPORT VIJAYPUR, Jan 10: Coming down heavily on the anti-refugee statements of leaders, former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh on Thursday warned those leaders of a political party giving anti-refugee statements keeping in mind the vote bank politics. "The leaders, who have recently given objectionable statements regarding the settlement of refugees in Jammu and Kashmir State, should desist from such statements. They have hurt the sentiments of the displaced community," Singh Said. He suggested such leaders to instead work for the one time settlement of the displaced persons and not to give such statements ignoring lakhs of people. Singh said this, while addressing a meeting on the last village along the International Border at village Nanga in Ramgarh sector of Vijaypur constituency. Manjit Singh also condemned the inhuman act of Pakistani Army on Indian Army soldiers in Poonch. After listening to the problems being faced by the farmers/refugees, Singh said that the displaced persons should be given their due rights. "The refugees of 1965 and 1971 are the citizens of the State and they should be given right to property. They have waited many decades for the fulfilment of their demands. Now the time has come for the government to decide the fate of the refugees and they should be settled one time," he said. |
