Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 16: Fixing of High Security Number Plates (HSNP) has become a tough job for the people of Jammu these days due to large scale of irregularities of the Mazlon Pvt Ltd, the company which has been given the contract for fixing HSNP. People who are coming to fix HSNP on their vehicle alleged that company's staff is fleecing the consumers who had already paid around Rs. 400 to the Regional Transport department and were refusing to fix number plates on the due date. A consumer Sushil Sharma alleged that he was given the date of January 8, 2013 for fixing the number plate of his vehicle but on the due date officials at Mazlon Pvt Ltd office at old RTO Office Bikram Chowk expressed their inability to fix the number plate. "When my brother visited the office on Jan 11, 2012, the number plate was still no where in site and officials behaved rudely with him," he said. Mazlon Pvt Ltd are fixing new series of registration numbers as well as the old numbers, but the company has been failed to satisfy the customers. Some of the people have managed to fix number plates from the outside vendor, which is illegal. Requesting anonymity an owner of a Swift Desire, bearing registration number of JK02BA series said, "I had visited the HSNP fixing point twice but it was not made on the time, I don't have that much time to visit again and again to fix it, so I had fixed it from the outside venders." The company has 4 machines installed in their unit, but only two are working at present, even the unit has the capacity of 800 plates per day, but they are making only 200-250 per day. The incharge of the unit refused the allegations of the people and said, "Two machines are sufficient to fulfill the target, and the work is going smoothly." While disclosing the reason he said, "We are facing the problem of electricity, low voltage and disruptive internet that is why sometime people have to suffer." Many people also alleged rampant corruption by the officials of Mazlon Pvt Ltd and said that those issued receipt today only were affixed number plates while those having deposited a week back were refused number plates. Officials said, "This problem was not brought to our notice, we will discuss it with the company as well as the Transport Commissioner." "Earlier, there was also complaint that these people were not collecting the fees from RTO office on time, and delaying the number plates of the people, but it was sought out, and we will discuss it with them and make the smooth functioning of fixing HSNP," he added. |
