JAMMU, Jan 16: Yet another political high drama was witnessed today when MLA Karnah, Kafil-Ur-Rehman declined to take the office of Vice-Chairman of the Advisory Board for the development of Pahari-speaking people in protest against his non inclusion in the Council of Ministers.
It merits a mention here that Government vide order No. 86 dated January15, 2013 nominated Kafeel-ur-Rehman MLA Karnah as the Vice-Chairman of the Advisory Board for the development of Pahari-speaking people. However, reliable sources told Early Times that Rehman has declined to join the office in protest against what he termed as injustice to the Pahari speaking community for not giving them representation in the State Cabinet.
Sources said that Rehman's supporters in Karnah constituency and also his family members have expressed strong resentment against what they termed humiliation to the community for not giving them representation in the Cabinet.
Rehman who is the lone MLA from Pahari community in the State legislature and is serving his third term as MLA. "National Conference has been using Pahari community as its vote bank but has always given step motherly treatment to the community and this time it has crossed all the limits especially under the circumstances when the party accommodated each section being represented in the State legislature but left out the Pahari community," sources privy to Kafeel told Early Times.
They said that NC has been ignoring Pahari community consistently since 2008 at all crucial junctures and the lone Pahari representative in the Assembly who is known for his honesty and integrity has been left out. "By making Kafeel Vice-Chairman of an insignificant organization, National Conference has rubbed salt on wounds of Pahari community which is likely to snowball in a major controversy in the coming days.
Meanwhile, sources said Kafeel has conveyed to the Government that he would not join the office as VC for the development of Pahari speaking community and would rather work towards welfare of the community is his capacity as MLA and a prominent representative of the Pahari's of Jammu and Kashmir.
"I am not joining the office. I want to work for the betterment of the community to which I belong," sources quoted Kafeel as having told to the Government.
Their refusal apparently exposed the Government to a State of embarrassment, amid speculation that in the massive reshuffle effected on Tuesday in the Cabinet, Omar Abdullah has totally disempowered Kashmir division as all the significant portfolios have gone to the Ministers from Jammu region.
