Soz loyalists carry the day, Azad's demoralized
Messages from Cabinet reshuffle
1/16/2013 11:38:14 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 16: If the composition of Congress Ministry in Omar Abdullah led NC-Congress coalition Government is any indication, JKPCC president Saifudin Soz has emerged stronger as he has been instrumental in revamping the Congress Ministry and allotting portfolios in consultation with the Chief Minister.
Though there is an apparent truce between the two warring factions of State Congress led by Soz and Ghulam Nabi Azad, however, indications are that Azad's wings have been clipped by the party high command and Soz has been given a free hand to decide about the organizational matters.
This was evident from the fact that Soz loyalists got important portfolios while Azad loyalists barring Abdul Majid Wani were divested of important portfolios and re-allocating them to the Ministers owing their allegiance to Soz. Even though some Ministers of State from Azad camp have emerged powerful for being given independent charges of important portfolios such as Revenue, Health, Animal Husbandry. However, among the Cabinet Ministers Majid Wani is the only powerful Minister from Azad faction while as Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla, GA Mir have emerged stronger as Tara Chand, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Taj Mohiuddin and Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed were stripped of the important portfolios and allotted insignificant departments.
The message is loud and clear. Soz is carrying the day and Azad who has already been left out at 10-Janpath from the important committees constituted by high command for monitoring and preparing for 2014 elections, has to some extent lost his say in the State matters.
Some even suggest that the main reason behind divesting of important portfolios of Azad loyalists was purely on corruption charges and one of them who would claim direct correspondence with 10-Janpath and was actually to be dropped from the Council of Ministers but Chief Minister Omar Abdullah came to his rescue he had stood by him (Omar) through thick and thin.
It is also said that having limited choice, the Ministers survived. Had there been availability of Members with credibility, one Power Minister would have been dropped for sure. Though Soz was having a choice to induct a couple of members of the Upper House in the Cabinet as NC did in case of Ajay Sadhotra, however, it is being said that he had not discussed it with the party high command which restrained him from doing so.
Whatever the reasons, Soz loyalists are carrying the day while as Azad loyalists are a demoralized lot atleast by now.
