| J&K Police lifts Christmas Gold Cup Football trophy | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 24: Jammu and Kashmir Police today emerged as new champion of the Christmas Gold Cup Football Championship after they defeated fighting CAPD (Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution) XI by two goals to nil at Mini Stadium, Parade, here. Scoring goals in either half of the 90-minute game, Police turned defensive after the second half of the game but still managed to score second goal through Tanvir in the last 85th minute to make it 2-0. Earlier, the first goal was scored by Yasin, who converted a penalty kick awarded to Police in the 43rd minute. However, Police defended well in the later stages of the match in the wake of CAPD onslaught. Had goal-keeper, Reyaz not diverted a power-packed kick by a CAPD forward from the right flank out of the net, the result would have been different. Otherwise dominated the field most of the time, CAPD lacked the finishing. The moves initiated by aggressive CAPD were foiled by the strong defence line created by the Police. The title clash was witnessed by a healthy crowd of football lovers at the favourite Mini Stadium, Parade ground. Except for a couple of pull and push, the game played in true spirit of sports. The final was officiated by Moon Stephen. In the final and valedictory function, Minister of State for Sports, Feroz Khan was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. Prominent among others present were Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), K Rajendra Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Armed, Johny Williams. This championship was organised by All J&K Christian Welfare Association under the supervision of organizing secretary, S M Gill and his team members, Feastus Sotra, Yousuf Don and David Masih. |
