| Akhoon, Ruhullah, Javed unlikely to accept organizational responsibility | | Cabinet reshuffle aftershocks | | Bashir Assad Jammu, Jan 24: Even though Chief Minister and Working President of National Conference, Omar Abdullah installed his two close confidants Devinder Rana and Nasir Aslam Wani as Provincial presidents for Jammu and Kashmir provinces respectively amid much fanfare with Abdullah personally greeting them in their new avatars, the other party nominees are no where in picture as if they were not even registered with Omar in the capacity of party workers. It would have been in the fitness of things if Surjeet Singh Salathia, who was nominated as Sr. Vice President of the party after he was disgracefully dropped from the Cabinet, should have taken over his new job before Rana and Wani which did not happen for obvious reasons. In case of Salathia, Qamar Ali Akhoon and Aga Ruhullah, Omar actually wanted to avoid dissent which is brewing now and it was only to that extent that Omar wanted to made them silent while giving organizational responsibility was nothing but a trick. However, the dropped disgraceful NC leaders who were given new organizational assignments too are not serious in their new avatars and mostly like, Salathia, Akhoon, Ruhullah, Javed Dar and Abdul Gani Malik will not accept the new assignments. But the question essentially remains that if Omar could go all along to Srinagar to greet his first lieutenant Nasir Aslam Wani, hug him, kiss him, why he could not organize such functions for other dropped Ministers who have been assigned party jobs?. Actually it clearly shows the casual attitude of Omar towards these disgraceful persons who, even if willing to accept the new job, will not Omar whirling around then as he was found in case of Rana and Wani. To the extent of his two buddies heading the party in Jammu and Kashmir provinces, Omar is delighted and beyond that whatever changes have been effected in the party are just insignificant. The fact remains that Choudhary Ramzan who has now been inducted in the Cabinet was also made Sr. Vice President in 2011 and of late Sajad Kichloo who is also a Minister now was made spokesperson a few months back but there was no fanfare nor did they ever issued a statement in their capacities as VP and Spokesperson respectively because they were no honored by them organizational responsibilities but were made so only to keep them in good humor. However, fact of the matter is that unrest is brewing among supporters of these leaders to the extent that supporters of Qamar Ali Akhoon have served an ultimatum to the party threatening to burn the flag of the party at district headquarters Kargil if Akhoon was not re-inducted in the Cabinet. On the other hand Salathia by organizing a really of his supporters is literary on war path so is Ruhullah, Gani Malik and Javed Dar. When contacted Qamar Ali Akhoon refused to comment on the issue saying, "Whatever my people have said, I don't want to comment on that". Aga Ruhullah said that he has not thought over it. When asked whether he was going to take over as Vice President of NC, Aga said, "I am not sure yet, I am in the constituency busy with my people , I have not thought about it as yet". Only Abdul Gani Malik said that he has accepted the new responsibility in the party he took over the day he was assigned the job. Javed Dar could not be contacted for his comments. . But, sources close to him reveal he has not taken kindly to his ouster from the Council of Ministers. On the other hand discontent is brewing in many constituencies particularly in Srinagar where NC's rank and file are reportedly angered because of non-representation. NC village Council members in Poonch district of Jammu region are also claiming a raw deal as no legislator from there has found a Ministerial berth during the reshuffle. However, the moot question remains whether the reshuffle has eased or added to the problems for Omar. Only time will judge this. Meanwhile, the resentment among workers of the Jammu based Congress stalwarts who have been allotted less significant rather low profile portfolios in the recent reshuffle, refuses to ease which is likely to take a heavy toll on the party in future. If the resentment disillusionment grows among the Congress workers in Jammu, Congress will be the ultimate loser in the game and electoral fortunes may turn in favour of opposition parties. Though the senior Ministers from Jammu region have started the fresh inning, however, their supporters were still demoralized which is dangerous for any political party's future prospects. |
