| Two capital cities turn into fortress ahead of R Day | | Combing operation launched in bordering villages along IB | | Sumit Sharma Jammu, Jan 24: In wake of Republic Day function, three-tier security grid have been put in place at Maulana Azad Stadium, main venue of the function, which has been virtually converted into fortress and put under siege. Meanwhile, police sources said the main venue of R Day in Valley the Bakshi Stadium also has been put under siege. When contacted DIG Jammu-Kathua range JP Singh giving brief about security blanket in city of temples said that besides tight nakas, about 14 police companies, 13 flying squads, 2 night patroling companies and around 100 Gazetted Officers of Police Deptt have been deployed for fool proof arrangements of Republic Day celebrations. Further to thwart any untoward incidents including a misadventure from miscreants from Border and to assess preparedness , a joint combing operation was launched by Kathua police and Border Security Force on the villages situated along the Indo-Pak border. SSP Kathua Atul Kumar Goel when contacted said that the combing operation was launched keeping in view the upcoming Republic Day celebrations. According to reports from Kathua, a joint research operation was conducted along the Hiranagar border area by BSF and Kathua police under the supervision of Atul Goel SSP Kathua and Commanding Officer BSF NS Ujjala. "All entry points to Kathua have been plugged and strengthened with additional check posts. The Village Defence Committees have also been alerted, sources added. Police sources said that Security pickets have been raised, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) are on high alert while cops in civics are conducting round the clock vigil in the City of Temples. "Special focus has been laid upon VIP and VVIP installations, General Bus Stand, Railway Station and Jammu Airport besides the religious places of repute in Jammu and its suburbs, they added. "Security has also been beefed up at Jammu Tawi Railway Station with additional deployment of troops and raising of barricades. Security personnel including the GRP men and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) are maintaining surveillance along the railway tracks while special dog squads have also been deployed for security, they added. SSP Reasi Ragubir Singh giving information of district Reasi said that all nakas have been tightened. He further said that a meeting with all Panchs and Sarpanchs was held by police for their support in making the Republic Day celebrations successful. Meanwhile, the venue MA Stadium Jammu has been put under siege with barbed wires to restrict any unwanted movement. Special pickets of paramilitary troops have been installed along the banks of river Tawi surrounding one side of the venue while security gadgets have been put in place at all entry points of the stadium, an official said. A senior police officer added that special police teams are also conducting surprise visits at hotels and lodges in Jewel Chowk area, located few metres away from the venue. The hoteliers have been advised to maintain visitors register and immediately inform the police on seeing any suspicious activity, he said. Meanwhile in Kashmir also the security has been beefed up ahead of the Republic Day even as full dress rehearsal of the parade was held at the Bakshi stadium. Police has set up barricades at many places to carry out random searches of vehicles entering the city, the sources said. |
