GDC Reasi reaches semis of inter-college cricket

JAMMU, Jan 24: Government Degree College (GDC) Reasi today reached the semifinals while combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments of Arts made it to the last eight stages after both the sides registered comfortable victories in the Inter-college Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, organised by Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu on the campus ground, here.
Earlier, GDC Reasi trounced GDC Billawar by four wickets. Batting first, GDC Billawar could make 108 runs for the loss of eight wickets. In reply, GDC Reasi overhauled the opponent total in 16.4 overs losing six wickets.
Shewaz Bhat (19), Bhanu Partap (16), Rahul (15) and Muneesh (14) were main contributors to GDC Billawar total. From GDC Reasi, Rakesh and Kulbushan bowled well taking away two wickets each.
Later, GDC Reasi made a slow start but the middle order batsmen hit the bowlers hard to achieve the target with four wickets in hand that too sparing 3.2 overs of their innings.
Rakesh Kumar remained top scorer with 21-ball 29 runs, followed by Abisheek Sharma, who made 22-ball 23 runs hitting two sixes and a boundary. Ripon Dogra and Jatinder Dev Singh added 16 and 11 runs respectively. From GDC Billawar, Muneesh Kumar clinched three wickets, followed by Rahul Sharma, who took two.
Meanwhile, in another second round pre-quarterfinal match, played in the morning session, the formidable side of PG Arts defeated GDC Kathua by a big margin of 63 runs.
Batting first, PG Arts set a target of 161 runs for five wickets with Sunil Sharma (37 off 22 balls, 8x4) and Taqdir Singh (38 off 30 balls, 4x4, 1x6) being highest scorers. Sukhwinder (31 off 17 balls) and Rahul Sharma (28) also batted well. Arjun Singh and Vikrant bagged three and two wickets respectively from GDC Kathua.
Later, chasing a target of eight-run per over, GDC Kathua could make 97 runs losing all their wickets in 19.3 overs. Arjun Singh remained top scorer with 27-ball 35 runs while Arjun Singh contributed 23. From PG Arts, Sukhwinder was most successful bowler, who took four wickets. Dilawar Singh, Ravinder Sharma and Kulwinder shared apiece each. Today's matches were officiated by Raman Kumar, Vijay Dogra and Saleem-ur-Rehman as umpires while Manu Khajuria was scorer.
