| Seminar on Nuclear Power organized at MIET | | | early times report Jammu, Jan 24:The Electrical Engineering Department at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Kot-Bhalwal, Jammu organized an awareness programme on the " Benefits of use of the Nuclear Power in India" on Tuesday ,22nd Jan 2013 in its campus. The event was organized as part of the Nation - wide awareness initiative on the use of the Nuclear Power in India launched by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). T.R. Arora currently functioning as the project Director, Nuclear Power Plant, Gorakhpur, Haryana and B.D. Jha, Chief Engineer, Rehabilitation and Re-settlement (R&R), NPCIL, Mumbai were the key resource persons on the occasion while Professor B.S. Komal, Head Applied Sciences Department presided over the event. The Event started with welcoming the Key resource persons by Prof. B.S. Komal and Amit Mehta, Asst. Prof. Electrical Engineering Department. The two resource persons spoke at great length covering variety of significant areas related to the Nuclear power scenario in India and the rest of the world. They also addressed important issues related to some vital aspects concerning the use of the Nuclear Power in India based on the own experiences and expertise in the domain of nuclear power. Arora, in his address told the audience that India's per capita consumption of electrical power is way below compared to the same in USA. The per capita consumption of power is actually a measure of development of the nation. He also said Technologically, India is self sufficient to build state- of-the -art Nuclear Reactors in the country indigenously. While India has 1/3 rd of the World's Thorium-a nuclear fuel reserve. Jha in his address convinced the audience about the safety mechanism quality incorporated in the design of the Nuclear reactors in India and said that the nuclear power generation is absolutely hazard- free and radiation free. He also supported Arora on enhancing the Nuclear Power contribution since 40% of Indian Population does not have access to electrical power. The Vote of Thanks was presented by Ankit Sharma, Lecturer EED, MIET who was also the event coordinator. The audience present on the occasion was the heads o f different departments of MIET, Faculty members of EED and different departments and the students of EED and also other departments of MIET. |
