| Education priority area, getting focused attention: DyCM | | GGHSS Mubarak Mandi celebrates Annual Day | |

JAMMU, Feb 4: Underlining education as priority area of the government, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said that focused attention is being paid to upgrade infrastructure in the sector and to equip education institutes with most modern facilities. He said education has a vital role to play in enlightening society as well as individuals. Flagship programmes like SSA and RMSA would go a long to improve the facilities provided in schools all across the state, he added. He was addressing annual day cum prize distribution function of one of oldest and premier girls education institute of the city Government Girls Higher Secondary, Mubarak Mandi, here today. The Deputy Chief Minister was chief guest on the occasion. MLA, Jammu (East) Ashok Khajuria, Commissioner/ Secretary, Education F.A. Factoo, Director, School Education, Jammu Dev Lata, DIG J.P. Singh, CEO, Jammu N.R. Dingra, parents, staff and school children attended the grand event. On the occasion prizes were distributed among students of the school who had excelled in the different curricular and co-curricular activates. Annual School magazine 'Sahtiya Sarita' was also released on the occasion. Lauding role of the teachers, Tara Chand said that the community commands special respect in the society and status of Guru is next to god, adding that bond of Guru-Sishya is a pious bond which has special status in every body's life. "Education is torch light of the society and teachers are torchbearers who lead us from darkness to the enlightened world of knowledge," he added. He said in the era of cut throat competition right guidance by the professional teacher can ensure success of student in various competitive examinations at state and national level. He appreciated the performance shown by the students of the school and called for maintaining the same in coming years also. "Besides preparing our children in studies special efforts need to be made to promote moral education among them, as morality in society has a special significance to curb the social evils," he exhorted. He said secularism, democracy and lessons of great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi are to be taught to young minds of children and the same need to be discussed in morning assembly sessions in the schools. Earlier to facilitate larger participation by the students, Tara Chand gave instructions for shifting venue of the function from indoor to outdoor. Stressing on in-service training for teachers, the Deputy Chief Minister said that to update professional skills in tune with modern day teaching techniques the teaching fraternity would be sent to different institutes. He said necessary education reforms would also be initiated in the department to fine tune it with the changing requirements of the education system. In his address, Ashok Khajuria recalled his long association with the school and appreciated the performance of school at different levels. He sanctioned Rupees Twenty Lacs from CDF for the construction of hall on first floor in the school premises. Principal Sureshta Dogra welcomed the dignitaries and presented annual report of the school. She detailed that students of the school have won academic positions in different streams and have excelled in sports, NCC and other activities. The Deputy Chief Minister said that a transparent and vibrant transfer policy is being worked out to ensure that staff requirements of all schools are met. He said rural and far-off schools tenure would be made compulsory and those giving one academic year in such areas would automatically get subsequent preferential posting. |
