Cabinet meet today: Guv address for budget session in agenda | Police promotions too may see approval finally | | early times report Jammu, Feb 4: State cabinet led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is meeting after over two weeks again to take final call on some pending decisions as also give nod to certain matters of urgent nature. This is the second cabinet meeting with new ministers on board who were inducted on Jan 15 reshuffle cum expansion exercise by the NC-Congress coalition in which some vital matters would be taken up as agenda. Sources said it is the address of Governor NN Vohra which he would deliver before joint session of Legislature for Budget session , which would be discussed by the cabinet members before giving formal approval to it. Governor would address the joint legislature on February 28 when the session is scheduled to commence this year. Sources said even as things have not yet been finalized for tomorrow's meeting in formal agenda, in all probability the cabinet led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would take up the matter of promotions of Police Officers at the higher level for formal approval, which is pending for a long time. New postings following promotions of the officers effected last year have not been announced for want of approval for the same from the cabinet. It is pertinent to mention here during the promotions, officers of the rank of DIGs were promoted to IG ranks, some SSPs were promoted to next higher rank of DIGs. The matter pending for over two months was scheduled to be taken in the last cabinet meeting. However, it was deferred once again in view of the Republic Day on account of the pre occupation of Police officers with gala security arrangements needed for the Republic Day on security front across the state. However, sources said, in all likelihood this would be taken up in tomorrow's meeting as the fresh could not be deferred for a long period any more. It is pertinent to mention that the matter was pending first for want of signatures of Chief Secretary after police promotions were effected through DPCs. However, the step mandatory at the CS level has been pushed through and only awaits cabinet nod. Sources said if taken in tomorrow's meeting, the matter assumes significance as all the officers are in senior ranks and coalition partners would certainly take keen interest in their postings following promotions. Sources said one of the key matter of gas pipeline project from Gujarat may also be included in tomorrow's meeting as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has already indicated urgency on the project in view of public demand .
