| PDP leaders play positive role in rock band controversy | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 6 : The two PDP leaders, Muzaffar Hussain Beig and Nizam-ud-Din Bhat have earned appreciation from the youth in Jammu and Kashmir for berating those extremists and fundamentalists who engineered closure of the first women rock band in the valley. Field reports said that Beig and Bhat had pleaded the party's case vis-a-vis its support to the rock band being run by three female teenagers during a detailed debate on TV channels. Both Bhat and Beig had, in their defence in support of the rock band, said that chakri, chorus singing and other music recitals were part of Kashmir's culture. Beig had stated that Sufiana music and songs too were part of valley's culture and when there was no objection to group singing by women during weddings why there was uproar over the rock band where the three girls would sing sufiana kalams. Both leaders wanted the Government, especially Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, to initiate action against those who had issued Fatwas against the rock band and later against all forms of music. In fact the PDP leadership believes that an unnecessary controversy had engulfed the first female rock band in Kashmir when the motive of the three girls was to lead Kashmir and its people from darkness to light. |
