KATHUA, March 10: Police Training School (PTS)-B lifted the Kathua Premier League (KPL) Twenty20 trophy after they trounced Stadium (Senior) XI in a nail-biting finish in the final played at Sports Stadium, here today. Needing the winning run on last delivery of the final 20th over with one wicket remaining, PTS-B batsman hit the ball for a boundary to clinch the thriller. Earlier, batting first, after PTS-B won the toss and opted to field, Stadium XI made 121 runs for eight. Arvind remained top scorer with 29 runs while Shiv Dutt and Mannu contributed 27 and 20 runs respectively. From PTS-B, Vinny Raina and Showkat took two wickets each. In reply, PTS-B lost early wickets but thanks to the patient innings played by Vinny Raina and Niteesh which guided the side to victory. While Vinny made 20-ball 38 runs, Niteesh contributed valuable 23 runs. Jatinder Kaka was most successful bowler from Stadium XI with three wickets while Himanshu took two. For his all-round performance, Vinny Raina was adjudged man of the match and presented with Rs 2100 as cash prize. The man of the series trophy went to Arvind Bhardwaj, who made 198 runs and took 13 wickets. He was given away Rs 5,100 as cash prize. Arvind Bhardwaj and Rajesh Gupta were adjudged best batsman and best bowler respectively and presented Rs 2100 cash prize each. Trophy for the fair play was given away to RCC Billawar. Member Parliament, Choudhary Lal Singh was chief guest in the final and valedictory function, who along with guest of honour District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kathua, Zahida Khan, gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also individual prizes. Earlier, the final started with introduction of the teams with SSP Kathua, Atul Kumar Goel. In all, 42 teams took part in this tournament played on knock-out basis. |
