JAMMU, Mar 10: Clad in a saffron sari, an ex-convent school student Aruna Gupta who miserably failed in the 'teaching profession' she professed prior to overnight turning into a Hindu godmother or 'Sadhvi' with new name 'Maa Aruna'.
Wrapped in a saffron sarong, Aruna effortlessly becomes a spiritual beacon for a curious bunch of truth seekers in Phoenix. From a modern, outgoing Aruna Gupta, she is now 'Maa Aruna', a highly spiritual lady capable of ridding the society of all the evils. She claims to be in possession of spiritual powers. A crowd puller of yester years, Aruna Gupta now claiming to have attained spiritual heights is attracting crowds, though not significant.
From poor and downtrodden to people from the VVIP class, all are thronging to witness jaaps and alaaps of this 'modern Sadhvi'. Wearing an unconventional dress with colored hair, this newly turned Sadhvi is doing Shakti Path for her devotees. She has money to spend on lavish advertisements in newspapers of her having turned into model spiritual guru. Her attire is 'filmy' said a person who had just come out of the so called Shakti Path of this ex-distressed teacher turned religious godmother.
She sits in an entirely awkward position with fingers stretched out. Her Husband Devinder Pushp Gupta who is a doctor by profession is all for helping her wife in this new found avatar. Gupta is an eye-specialist and has clinic in Kanak Mandi, Jammu. He is son of Dr. L.C.Gupta, a re-knowned eye-specialist with a clinic by the name and style of 'Gupta eye-lotion' in the ever-busy city Chowk area.
Gupta has reputation of being one of the best philanthropists and eye-specialist of Jammu city. He has been treating eye-patients with expertise and honesty. Barring Aruna's husband, Dr. L.C.Gupta's other children are doing extremely well in their chosen fields. They are successful in their respective fields. They are respected for their values and intelligence. They are known experts of their respective fields.
On the contrary, this duo under the cover of a "Zen living" have opened up a so-called spiritual counseling center in the outskirts of Jammu city. She, if those who visited the place of spiritual discourse are to be believed, is a modern English-speaking sadhvi, sporting make-up besides wearing diamond and gold jewellery. She needs no qualification, no certificate but just the art of convincing commoners that she knows cure of their ills and is the only one to help them out.
Maa Aruna or Aruna Gupta failed as a teacher, only to discover after having settled her children that she possesses spiritual powers. The only intent seemingly is to earn money by making claims which other similar Sadhvis, Babas, self-claimed peers and fakirs make across the country. Media has exposed them all. She represents the same clout from Jammu," said a commoner who visited her.
She added that a Sadhvi's attire is entirely different. "She was known all along among her near and dear ones for back-biting and character assassination. Her new avatar is comical and aimed merely at earning money. She cannot claim to be Sadhvi while enjoying all the luxuries of life. She should abandon family and stay put in Haridwar for some time, so that when she comes back, she could convince at least her own family members of her having become Sadhvi," added another person who had gone to Aruna's Ashram.
