"Bring it on, Boris!" Pippa Middleton challenges the Mayor of London to a ping-pong match
4/4/2013 10:01:30 PM

London: Pippa Middleton has laid down a battle ‘royal’ for the government – challenging Boris Johnson to a ping-pong match.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s sister sparked a joking rivalry with the Mayor of London after learning that the Johnson family are “as competitive as the Middletons”.
Pippa, 29, poked fun at the mop-haired politician’s love of the sport, saying he wants to be a table tennis champion “even more than he wants to be Prime Minister.”
Pippa also jokingly dismissed ping-pong, known as ‘whiff-whaff’ as a “less demanding hobby” than her favourite pursuit of cross country skiing.
Writing about her latest ski marathon in the Spectator, Pippa said: “Back home in London after my Alpine challenges, I can now pursue less demanding hobbies in my spare time, such as ping-pong.
“I’m informed that Boris Johnson, former editor of this magazine, wants to be ‘whiff-whaff' world king even more than he wants to be Prime Minister.
“I’m also told the Johnsons are almost as competitive as the Middletons. So I’d like to lay down a challenge to the Mayor.
“My only stipulation is that I can use my favourite Dunlop Blackstorm Nemesis bat, which I used when I played in the Milton Keynes U13 National Championships, don’t you know. The Mayor also invited Pippa to join him on a visit to see the benefits of the £22 million London 2012 Sports Legacy Fund, which he unveiled in December 2010.
Pippa, who has turned her hand to cookery writing with a new column in Waitrose Food Illustrated following the release of her book on entertaining, penned a diary for the Spectator magazine.
Among her musings on the “haute route”, an 111-mile ski trek from Chamonix in France to Zermatt in Switzerland, the competent skier confessed that she “felt like a total beginner again” in front of her attractive guy.
She wrote: “I couldn’t execute my kick-turn. I managed to fill my gloves with snow while getting into my skins. I put my crampons on wrong.
