| Process underway to provide adequate staff, to fill vacancies: Tara Chand | | Government mulling New Education Policy | |

JAMMU, Apr 4:The Deputy Chief Minister (Minister In-charge School Education Department) Mr Tara Chand Thursday said that Government is contemplating to draft a new education Policy for further improving the education scenario in the State on modern lines.
The Deputy Chief Minister was replying to a discussion raised by Gulam Nabi Monga regarding poor performance of Government Schools. He said despite presence of highly qualified teachers in the Government schools, results are not as we would like them to be. He said steps have already been initiated to fix accountability for poor performance. He said, orders have been issued to detach all attachments and rationalisation of staff and teachers in schools is being carried out. He said the promotions recently effected in the school education department will be continued further and by end of this month all available vacant posts that can be filled through promotions will be done.
Mr. Tara Chand said that as many as 8000 posts in different categories have been referred to PSC and SSRB with directions for early recruitment so that requisite staff is made available in all schools across the state.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that clear directions have been passed on for greater supervision and monitoring by CEO’s and ZEO’s in their respective jurisdiction through regular inspections of schools, monthly parent- teacher meets and involvement of Panchayat institutions.
Regarding creation of infrastructure under SSA, Mr. Tara Chand said that, all Deputy Commissioners across the state have been directed to conduct on the spot verification of infrastructure on ground being constructed under SSA. He said several incomplete school buildings under SSA and other programmes will be put on fast track completion mode.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that parents should pay greater attention to their wards at home and ensure that they attend schools regularly and are getting due attention in schools. He said Panchayat members should also ensure proper functioning of schools and ensure all children in their respective Panchayat are attending schools and everyone gets enrolled with zero dropout rates.
Highlighting significance of peace and normalisation for providing best quality education to the children, the Deputy Chief Minister said that over the years education sector in the state has suffered due to turmoil in the State. Conducive and peaceful environment if provided to the children enhances efficiency and performance considerable and will also improve the overall functioning of the education sector, he maintained.
Taking part in the discussion, the Members appreciated the working of the Deputy Chief Minister and suggested measures for bringing further improvement in the education sector.
