BJP eyes 2014 Polls in Bundelkhand Resolution
4/4/2013 10:06:03 PM
CHITRAKOOT (MP): Eyeing a bigger pie in drought-hit backward Bundelkhand of Uttar Pradesh in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has started focussing on the area well in advance.
The party, which has not only created a new Bundelkhand unit separating it from Kanpur region, also passed a separate resolution during its two-day state executive committee meeting which concluded today.
The BJP is enthusiastic about it chances as the party had made inroad in Bundelkhand region where it won three Assembly seats out of 19, ending its drought in the region.
In its resolution, the party alleged that SP, BSP and Congress governments were responsible for the economic backwardness of Bundelkhand.
It said that due to lack of compensation either from the state or Central government, the farmers of the drought-hit area were forced to commit suicide and alleged that between 2004 to 2012 around 1,600 people committed suicide.
The party has demanded the state government to give compensation to farmers affected by drought and hailstorm.
It also demanded compensation at the rate of Rs 20,000 per acre to the farmers affected by supply of damaged seeds, besides demanding an inquiry of non-payment of insurance amount to the community to be given under crop insurance scheme.
The party in turn promised that when it comes to power at the Centre, it would give interest free loan to the farmers and develop infrastructure for tourism.
It said that a scheme would be worked out to ensure availability of adequate water for irrigation and free electricity would be given to the farmers for the purpose.
Besides this, the party has promised that considering the special situation of the region, it would be declared rostering-free zone and round the clock power supply would be ensured.
In its political resolution, the party has attacked Akhilesh government on all fronts specially law and order.
"In our political resolution instead of making any demand from the government, we have painted the current picture of the state," BJP state president Laxmi Kant Bajpai said.
He alleged that in the one year rule of SP, the crime graph was on the rise and abduction became an "industry". "In the last one year, 34 communal riots took place and even police officers and personnel are not safe," Bajpai said.
The BJP leader alleged that there was a sort of competition between SP and Congress-led government for Muslim appeasement and people of the state were facing the consequences.
The state president also announced a number of programmes to be launched by the party.
"The party will observe its foundation day on April 16 and after that Vidhan Sabha will be gheraoed on April 18 on the issues of the farmers, including non-payment of cane dues," he said.
Bajpai said that before that a meeting of the office-bearers would be held on April 9 in which work would be distributed.
"A three-day training camp of selected 180 workers will be held in July or August and the party will launch 'Gaon Chalo' campaign in May or June month," he said.
