| Another embarrassment awaits Omar Govt | | Sub standard medicines seized from Govt hospitals | | Javaid Naikoo
Srinagar, Apr 4 : At a time when the Government is about to implement much awaited drug policy in the Jammu and Kashmir, a government supplied medicine across the state namely maximizin - 625, proved to be substandard after testing in the labs. Major revelations came to the fore about the supply of medicine which Government itself supplies to the Hospitals across the state after drug inspectors raided many Hospitals in South Kashmir and started seizing the medicine namely maximizin 625 in the tablet form of Amoxicillin Clavulanate Potassium. According to the details received the operation of seizing this medicine secretly started from the Bone and Joint Hospital Srinagar some time ago, whereas today after the drug inspectors of District Shopian and Pulwama namely Aashiq Hussain, Junaid Naseer, Bilal Ahmad Rather along with the Assistant drug controller of south Kashmir's district Pulwama and district Shopian Nighat Jabeen seized thousands of strips of the said medicine during their secret campaigning in the area.The details received reveal that in district Hospital Shopian out of 8,000 strips supplied to this Hospital, more than 6,000 thousand strip has been supplied to various Hospitals from here and almost whole lot of medicine supplied has been distributed among people in district Hospital shopian and in the hospitals attached with it.In its Keller and Rajpora Blocks more than 1800 strips were seized, whereas from the south Kashmir's Pampore area of Pulwama district 600 strips were seized, besides a huge lot of the same Government supplied medicine was seized from the district Hospital Pulwama.The scam came in to the fore after the Medical Superintendent of district Hospital Shopian namely Dr Nazir Ahmad stranded the said team of Drug inspectors in the hospital premises for hours by giving them different excuses before they could check the record and supply/stock of the said medicine at the Hospital. The Medical superintendent stranded team for replying to their letter no Df,maximizin- 625,B.No PBT 1583 and argued openly with the assiatant drug controller Nighat Jabeen before he called upon his store keepers to allow them to check the supply of medicine in the stores.Talking to ETP, the drug inspectors said that this medicine supplied to Government hospitals is completely a substandard medicine and has not even 0% amoxicillin content in it. According to the medical experts, the said Government supplied medicine to the Hospitals across the state has not o% efficacy, but it would be worthy to know that instead of amoxicillin content is in this Medicine what sort of content is in the Maximizin-625 tablet.The details received in this regard also reveal that after the said medicine supplied in Hospitals was found of a substandard nature, orders were issued to seize the remaining supply of medicine from the Government Hospitals so that that could be hue and cry in case this scam is exposed in the public.It is pertinent to mention that scam got exposed at a time when the State Government has decided to implement the new drug policy in the state to save people in general from buying substandard medicine and stop the business of generic medicine supplied to the medical stores across the state. |
