| 8 Kashmiris make it to IAS this year | | | Srinagar: Eight Kashmiris have made it to the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS) exam held by Union Public service Commission for 2013.
Syed Sehrish Asgar has made it to the prestigious exam with 23rd rank, whileas Showkat Parray from Vizir Barmulla has made it with 41st rank. Other candidates from valley who qualified the exam include Khurshid Ali Qadri with 95th rank, Naveed Tramboo with 386th rank, Abid Sadiq 501st rank, Amanullah Tak 571st rank and Dr Ruveda Salam Bajjad with 820thrank.
While talking to reporters, Khurshid Ali dedicated his success to the hard work he had put in for this examination. Taking a tough combination of Botany and Geography for the mains examination Khurshid made it to IAS without coaching.
A lecturer of Botany in the School Education Department Khurshid had done his masters in Botany from Jamia Hamdard University Delhi and cleared the Junior Research Fellow(JRF) examination and got appointed as a lecturer in the school education Department.
“Do hard work and you would be successful. Kashmiris are talented people. If guided properly Kashmiri students can clear an examination,” Khurshid told KNS.
Khurshid is already a KAS 2009 officer posted as Assistant Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD).
Another boy from Nawakadal Srinagar, Adnan Nayeem Asmi has also made it to the
prestigious services with 189th Rank.
The 26-year-old Adnan did his graduation in Economics and Political Science from Saint Stephens College Delhi in 2009. Afterwards he dedicated his time towards the Civil Services and did coaching in Political Science from Waji Institute in Delhi and coaching in Sociology from Upendran Institue Delhi
Adnan believes that remaining focus is the key for competitive examination.
“Be focused and do a planned study. Nothing is impossible,” Adnan said.
It is pertinent to mention here that incumbent Inspector General Police Kashmir Abdul Ghani Mir has done a pioneering work in this field. It was he who started coaching and counselling for civil servants in Kashmir and established a trust Initiative for Competition in J&K for the purpose. Several candidates who have been counselled and imparted training in the institute have benefited and made it to the civil service.
Mir who originally hails from Kupwara district was the first IPS officer from his area when he qualified the exam in 1994. |
