| Rs. 255 Cr to be utilized under IWSMP during current fiscal: Sagar | | | Srinagar: Minister for Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar today urged to implement the Integrated Water Shed Management Programme (IWSMP) for improving socio-economic status of the people living in rural areas through the diverse agro based activities to provide sustainable livelihood to the people. This was stated by the Minister while chairing a meeting of the officers of state level Nodal Agency convened to review the implementation of Integrated Water Shed Management Programme here today. Threadbare discussions were held for the successful implementation of the programme. It was given out in the meeting that financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 284 crore has been sanctioned by the union government during 2012-13 for five years, through which 1.89 hectares of land shall reclaimed in the state. It was also informed in the meeting that during current financial year Rs. 255 crores shall be utilized to cover 1.7 lakh of land under the said scheme. Mr. Sagar enjoined upon the officers to work with dedication for the implementation of Integrated Water Shed Management Programme in the state so that the benefits can percolate to the grass root level and for the successful implementation of the schemes local representatives of Panchayats shall be taken on board while formulating the plan for developmental activities. He also impressed for setting up of fish farming units, afforestation reclamation of barren land and construction of foot bridges, water reservoirs to facilitate the people of the state. Among others, Chief Executive Officer for State Water Shed Management Programme, Dr. Abdul Aziz Shah, Central Expert for IWMP, Dr. S Naqash, Project Manager, Kashmir Division besides department level nodal officers participated in the meeting. |
