Road connectivity pivotal for socio-economic transformation: Wani
Stresses for timely completion of on-going projects

SRINAGAR: Stressing the need for completing on-going road projects in time-bound manner in the State, Minister for Roads & Buildings Mr. Abdul MajidWani said that road connectivity is pivotal for transforming socio-economic condition of people by promoting business transactions between rural and urban areas.
This was stated by the Minister while addressing a joint review meeting of officers of JKPCC, PMGSY and R&B department here today.
The Minister reviewed the progress of works division-wise and sector-wise and got first hand appraisal of the pace of works under-execution in Kashmir Division. He directed the concerned engineers to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPRs) of two projects from each Constituency in consultation with respective MLA and submit within weeks’ time. He also asked to remove the bottlenecks if any hampering completion of the project.
Taking stock of physical and financial achievements of road projects in Anantnag and Ganderbal district respectively, the Minister paid major thrust on completion of roads in view of ensuing Amar Nath Ji Yatra.
The Minister said that the dedicated and devoted officers of the department would be rewarded, adding that Departmental Promotion Committee would also be asked to fill-up the posts falling vacant under promotion quota. He also appreciated some Engineers for surpassing the set target.
The Minister also took stock of the projects prioritized by Chief Minister in the District Development Board Meets last year.
The Minister also revealed future plan of action of the department and said that he would also visit the District Headquarters to review the physical and financial achievements of the works being executed in different departments.
Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir Division, Mr. Mustaq Ahmad Lone informed that 1477 schemes amounting to Rs. 1420 crore are going-on under projectization in R&B sector of which 816 kilometres road was black-topped by spending Rs. 151 crore last year. Similarly, 714 schemes amounting to Rs. 1532 crore are under execution under NABARD of which 428 kilometres road length was black-topped by expending Rs. 137 crore. Similarly, out of 250 bridges, 21 bridges were completed last year by utilizing Rs. 32 crore and out 17 schemes, 4 schemes were completed by spending Rs. 108 crore under Central Road Funding (CRF).
Chief Engineers PMGSY Kashmir, Mr. Ishtaq Ahmad Hamal informed that 879 new schemes and 36 schemes for upgradation were taken-up. As many as 432 habitations were connected by constructing over 34 kilometres of road length so far, the meeting was informed.
Managing Director, JKPCC MR. T R Bhagat informed that the work on 6 bridges amounting to Rs. 39 crore and 7 buildings amounting to Rs. 92 crore were completed last year, while as work on 50 bridges, 10 Degree Colleges and 3 Polytechnics is going-on. Likewise, 35 bridges amounting to Rs. 230 crore, 10 bridges amounting to Rs. 80 crore and 5 bridges amounting to Rs. 51 crore were taken-up under projectization, NABARD and Central Road Funding respectively in Kashmir Division.
Among others, Commissioner Secretary R&B Mrs.TanveerJehan, besides Deputy General Managers and Managers of JKPCC, Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers R&B of the Division attended the meeting.
