| Mian Altaf visits Poonch, takes stock of forest, road projects | | | POONCH: A project of Rs. 3 crore has been sent to the Central Government for approval under NABARD in social forestry sector for creation of infrastructure and afforestation, While Rs. 110 crore have been spent on completion of 32 road projects under PMGSY, Rs. 42 lakh are being incurred under different programmes in Poonch district. This information was given to the Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment, MianAltaf Ahmad during two day tour of Poonch district which concluded Yesterday. Various deputations from a number of villages called on the Minister and apprised him about their developmental needs besides seeking improvement in basic amenities in their respective areas. The Minister instructed the engineers to take concrete steps and ensure that road projects taken up under PMGSY are completed early besides macadamization and repairing damaged roads in the district. He said roads leading to hilly and remote areas need to be taken up on priority and directed engineers to speed up the construction work of new roads in this border district. The Minister was informed that 22 road projects have been completed at a cost of Rs. 67 crore, out of 44 roads taken up under PMGSY in Poonch so far. He was told that 31 road projects have been taken up in Mendhar under PMGSY during current financial year out of which 10 have been completed, costing Rs. 43 crore and the work is in progress on 17 projects. The Minister directed the officers of forest department to ensure the safety of forests besides launching massive plantation drive in their respective areas. He asked officers to intensify field visits and monitor personally the progress of the projects coming up in forest sector. The Minister was informed that Rs. 19.50 lakh stands expended during previous fiscal in social forestry sector against Rs. 42 lakh, approved for various schemes under CAMPA in Poonch district Earlier while taking to the deputationists, the minister assured them that all genuine demands pertaining to basic facilities would be fulfilled in a phased manner. He asked people to come forward and take the benefits of the welfare schemes launched by the Government in the State. |
