Nahida for entrepreneurship dev among women
WDO shaping destiny of Women through ESW

SRINAGAR, May 11 : In order to get feedback about the success of the Empowering Skilled Young Women (ESW) Scheme, the J&K State Women’s Development Corporation organized an interaction programme here today which was attended by 26 entrepreneurs hailing from different districts of Kashmir Division. Managing Director WDC, Ms. Nahida Soz, in her opening remarks mentioned about the role of J&K Women’s Development Corporation in the empowerment of women under ESW Scheme. She advised the entrepreneurs to educate other women about their success stories after availing the loan under the said scheme. The ESW is a part of Sher-i-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth (SKEWPY), launched by J&K Women’s Development Corporation (WDC) in the year 2010. WDC plays a pivotal role in providing employment to qualified women entrepreneurs by providing finance for establishment of their Income Generating Units.
During interaction, it was revealed by one of the entrepreneur namely Ms. Gulshan Wani that with a loan of Rs.3.00 lakhs sanctioned in her favour by WDC, today she has a monthly turnover of more than rupees three lakhs in pharmaceuticals business and is providing employment to about 16 persons. Another entrepreneur namely Mrs. Mymoona who hails from Pattan mentioned that she is doing a successful fruit business and her yearly turnover is more than rupees 3.50 lakhs. She further said that she is providing seasonal employment to three to four persons. Another young entrepreneur Shifa Khan who has done MBA from Delhi University and has also undergone training through NIFT in Fashion Designing informed about her plans of establishing a unit of fashion designing at Court Road, Srinagar under the brand name of ‘Butterfly”. Shifa availed Rs. 2.00 lacs under ESW scheme. Shaheena Bashir, another well-educated entrepreneur informed the entrepreneurs that loan of rupees three lacs have been sanctioned by WDC in her favour. She is running an institute under the name and style of “ALOHA”, for mental development of children, with an annual turnover of more than rupees four lacs. She has employed 9-10 persons in various centres located at Raj Bagh, B.B. Cantt., Tangmarg, Nowgam etc.
Another successful business women ‘Jamsheeda’ of Wanbal, Srinagar who is the first entrepreneur under ESW scheme, while sharing her experiences during the interaction, stated that her boutique situated in Barzulla Chowk under brand name of Pakeeza has become very popular and her monthly turnover has crossed two lacs. She is providing employment to seven persons at her boutique. One more entrepreneur Zahida of Handwara, District Kupwara told that she had initially taken a loan of Rs.50000 from WDC and with her hard work, she earned a profit of Rs.1.50 lacs and also liquidated the loan amount. She has now availed Rs 2.oo lacs loan under ESW scheme which she has invested in her dry fruit business. The entrepreneurs informed that with the start of their own business activities, they have earned respect in the family and society as well. Their quarterly repayment at WDC is a testimony to their successful venture. All the entrepreneurs in one voice suggested that the project cost for different trades under ESW scheme need to be enhanced.
