| Bhalla asks parents to educate their children | | Inaugurates newly constructed block at GHS Barjala | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 11 : Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture, Raman Bhalla, today inaugurated newly constructed additional block at Government High School Barjala. Comprising two additional classrooms, toilet blocks, Library, office accommodation, the additional block has been constructed under RMSA and completed at a cost of Rs 39 lakh. Director School Education, G. A. Qureshi, school staff and students besides a large number of local people were present at the inaugural function. Addressing the gathering, the Minister stressed upon the parents to educate their children adding that the education was essence of the modern day life and the coming generations would be known by the level of education. The minister asserted that several measures have been initiated to improve the educational standard in the State adding that focus has been laid on to improve the infrastructure and provide well qualified staff to ensure quality education to the students. He said much has been done in this regard through flagship schemes like SSA and RMSA but there is always scope for improvement . He said Government has framed a comprehensive plan for opening of new schools with adequate qualified staff within a distance of one-kilometer in every nook and corner of the State as a step towards universalization of education. The Minister called upon the parents to send their wards to the schools to make them enlightened citizens. He said the Government was providing free books, scholarship, mid-day meal and uniform upto eighth class to meet this end. The minister stated Centre is providing sufficient funds under various Centrally Sponsored Schemes like SSA and RMSA by which thousands of schools have been opened and upgraded in the State. Director School Education also addressed the gathering and highlighted the achievements of the department. Earlier, the Minister kick started blacktopping work on Deep Nagar Kunjwani road to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 4 lakh by Road and Building Department. Meanwhile, the Minister also laid foundation stone of deep drill tube-well and kick starting blacktopping work at J&K Housing Board Flats at Bahu Apartments. The tube-well being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 80 lakh under Augmentation of Water Supply of LIC, would discharge one lakh gallon water per day. The project also include laying of the new rising main from tube-well to Nakra GSR for further supply to Gandhi Nagar area. The Minister asked the concerned officers to complete the work of the project in a shortest span of time using quality material. At the Housing Board Flats, the Minister enquired from the residents about the basic facilities available to them and said that with the start of blacktopping work in the area their long pending demand has been fulfilled. He said that Housing Board is providing well designed and developed accommodation at reasonable rates. The Minister said that the deep tube well is being raised in this area to cope up with the water crisis in the localities of Green Belt Part, Panama Chowk, AD Block and adjoining areas. He said that the people of Green belt Park, Panama Chowk, Vegetable and Fruit Mandi, were getting water supply from Nakra tube well but due to additional requirement of water this tube-well is being constructed. DGM, Housing Board, Mr. B.L. Bhagat, officers of PHE and other concerned departments were present on the occasion. |
