Taj inaugurates Colour Doppler, upgraded wards in SMGS

jammu, May 14:Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sport, Taj Mohi-ud-din, today inaugurated Colour Doppler Machine and upgraded wards of Obstetrics and Gynaecology department in Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital (SMGS), Jammu.
The Minister inspected various other wards and renovated toilet complex in the hospital and appealed the patients and their attendants to help the administration in proper sanitation and maintenance of these utilities. He also took stock of various development works done in the hospital during the year 2012-13 and expressed satisfaction over the progress. He directed the Executive Engineers Civil and Mechanical wings to complete the pending works in the hospital within stipulated time frame. He directed for regular cleaning and maintenance of wash rooms and toilets of the hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the newly installed Colour Doppler Machine and upgraded wards will further add to healthcare facilities for the patients. He asked the concerned to ensure proper functioning and maintenance of these vital services.
Dr. Shashi Gupta, Officiating Principal/Dean, Govt. Medical College, Jammu, Dr. Ghanshyam Gupta, HOD Radiology, Dr. Vipin Gupta, HOD Dematology, Dr. Rekha Harish, HOD Paediatrics, Dr. Indu Koul, Acting Head of Obst. & Gynaecology Department, Reva Gupta, Administrator, Associated Hospitals/GMC, Jammu, Dr. Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent, SMGS Hospital, Jammu Faculty members and Casualty Medical Officers, SMGS Hospital, Jammu were present during the visit of the Minister.
Later, the Minister convened a meeting to review the functioning of Government Medical College, Jammu and its associated Hospitals.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister directed the Principal GMC to ensure that all the diagnostic equipments like MRI, USG, X-Ray, CT Scan etc will remain functional for convenience of the patients, adding that any technical or instrumental problem in these important machines can cause inconvenience to the patients.
During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues like status of investigation of missing new born babies from SMGS, operationalization of Modular Operation Theatres in GMC Jammu, Up-gradation of OPD Blocks at Medical College Hospital, Jammu, Procurement of Generic Drugs for consumption in Medical College and Associated hospitals stores and status of life saving drugs in emergency wing and wards.
The other issues discussed were status of drugs and other material lifted from stores for lab analysis, timely utilization of funds both Plan and Non Plan, status of handling over of toilets to Sulabh International, Establishment of common ICU at SMGS Hospital, Jammu, construction of staff quarters, provision of Air Conditioned Ambulances for patients, etc.
The Minister asked the hospital dispensation to ensure a strong security network in the hospital so that no untoward incident, like missing of new born babies, happens in this prestigious institute as this is not only an official duty but a moral responsibility as well.
