Azad visits quake affected areas of Bhaderwah, Doda

DODA: Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is on an extensive visit to the earthquake affected Doda district, on Tuesday visited quake affected areas of Bhaderwah, Ghat and Doda town along with Minister for R&B and Mechanical Engineering Abdul Majid Wani, to review the relief and rehabilitation measures.
Speaking on the occasion, Azad underlined the need of adopting advanced earthquake engineering technology in construction works including government as well as private constructions in the region. This region is under seismic zone and the structures here must have the ability to sustain after earthquake exposures. He said that recent earthquake tells us to understand the gravity of the issue and adopt latest technology in the construction works so that loss of life and property could be minimized in any such natural calamity. He said the structures which are made up of stiff and light weight material resists earthquake and are quite reliable and before going ahead with any construction plan the technical and professional advices must be taken.
Azad said that best possible assistance and relief will be provided to the quake affected people in the region. He said assessment of damages of residential as well as government property is going on in the entire region by the teams deputed for conduct of survey at block level, tehsil and village level in the entire district.
Azad said all the affected families will be
provided relief and help by the Government so that they will get rehabilitated, for which coordinated efforts are being made by the State as well as Central Government. He also said that a team of National Disaster Management Authority New Delhi (NDMA) is also on job to assess the extent of damage in residential as well as government buildings.
Azad also inspected various ongoing developmental works in Bhaderwah and directed the concerned executing agencies to expedite the pace of work for timely completion.
The Union Minister also convened a meeting of officers in Bhaderwah and directed the District Administration to ensure coverage of all the affected people in the survey report so that clear picture goes to the government and the relief and assistance reaches to the deserving affected population.
A large number of people met the Union Minister in Ghat, Doda and Bhaderwah blocks and apprised him of the damages caused to their houses by the earthquake.
Later, he visited Government Schools in Ghat, Doda and Bhaderwah and assessed the damages.
MLC, Naresh Kumar Gupta, DDC, Doda, Mubarak Singh and SDM Bhaderwah Dr. R.K Bharti were also present on the occasion.
